A stock picker, also referred to as an order picker is a machinery that is somewhat similar to a forklift. It allows the driver to utilize forks to pick up a pallet. An order picker is also capable of lifting the operator up to higher shelves for picking certain things, and this feature is something the forklift does not offer. Normally, order pickers are operated by electricity. These type of machines are mainly used in a warehouse environment. Most often they are utilized for moving pallets and doing certain tasks in the stocking and shelving department.
The operator of an order picker uses controls to control the unit from a platform setting that normally sits fairly close to the ground. The operator is able to direct the machine to go backwards, forwards or steer it from side to side. When the operator has positioned the unit in place the tines could be lifted up to the required level that makes it really convenient for the operator. For example, if the materials needed, are situated on a shelf that the operator cannot reach, then whole platform can be lifted up to certain level. Due to the counterweight located at the other end, the unit remains balanced, even at higher levels.
When the order has been picked, the platform is lowered back to its original position. Then the order picker can be driven to its next load. With the majority of models, it is possible to move the order picker whilst the platform is raised, however, several businesses might have procedures and policies in place preventing such maneuvers for safety reasons. An order picker could also put pallets on a shelf. Stackers and forklifts could be utilized to finish these particular tasks at some companies instead.
